If you are careful enough, some of your camping equipment will last for a longer period and it will help you in preparation for your next vacation. Postponing cleaning only makes it more complex in the end. If there are strong stains or mold, you have to act quickly. If you fail, or your stuff breaks, you should buy new hunting and camping gear online here and save yourself a lot of trouble. So roll up your sleeves and get to work! We are by your side with the following tips.

How to clean your tent

Did you pack up the tent while it was too wet or too damp? Hang it up to dry as soon as you get home. This is particularly important for cotton tents, as this material is susceptible to mold growth. Never use soap or all-purpose cleaners. Such agents attack the waterproof coating of your tent.

It would be safest to use clean water. Often it is enough to clean your tent with a soft brush. Use some warm water for stains that are difficult to remove. Would you like to use a cleaning agent? Then buy a tent cleaning agent intended for this purpose from a shop for camping accessories.

If you are looking for a kind of tent that is very easy to clean and lightweight, your solution is tree tents. You can find more about tree tents on Globo Surf.

Backpack

Not all backpacks are machine washable so it is imperative that you first check the washing instructions on the label. In case your backpack is too big to fit in the machine or if the specification states that it is not suitable for machine washing, the only solution is to wash it in a tub. Be sure to check the label to see if the backpack is fully washable, or if there are any parts that should be removed. Empty your backpack  gear carefully. Do not use regular detergents that can be aggressive and damage your backpack, especially if it is waterproof. The detergent will not damage the color, but it may damage the waterproof element. Always dry your backpack naturally and keep it away from direct heat sources. If possible, hang the backpack upside down.

Sleeping bag

Don’t wash the sleeping bag in the washing machine unless instructed to do so. The washing machine will thicken the inner material, reduce the insulation and thin it out.

If you wash it in a machine, be sure to insert it into its case so that its material does not rip during washing. For those who have small bag cases that compress the bag, put the bag into the pillowcase. The point of washing it in its case or a pillowcase is to prevent tearing, to keep the feathers from ripping, and the bag compact. Regular detergent and other chemicals should be avoided. There are special liquids that are used to wash this kind of stuff. You must hang it outside after washing to allow it to dry thoroughly. If the bag is not completely dry when you pack it, mold will appear on it. Don’t put it in a laundry dryer because it will damage the bag.

Hand washing

Another option is to wash the sleeping bag in a tub with cold water. Add appropriate detergent and soak the sleeping bag. Although it may sound a bit unusual, the easiest way to wash it is to get into the tub and walk around over your bag to get all the dirt out of it. Then let the water run out of the tub and refill it with clean cold water. Rinse the bag until the water is clear.

Waterproof clothes

Use a special detergent with a special formula for sports and outdoor wear. Never use fabric softener because it prevents the elastic and waterproof fabrics from being properly cleaned. You can make your jacket more waterproof if you use a waterproof spray, or use detergents that simultaneously clean and restore the jacket’s water resistance.
