Be it a proper nerd or a complete bomb, any girl who graduates school will definitely go to a salon for a makeover. It may not be as drastic as for some people, but at least a clearer face, a less fried up hair, or even an occasional makeup splash may happen. As girls, we spend most of our childhood and teenage years staring at mirrors, applying our moms/aunts’ makeup, doing self-ramp walks, and reading about famous celebrities on fashion magazines.

Though we hesitate to agree, at some point in our lives, we’ve done at least one of the above. Our minds are programmed to keep up appearances. It’s not always the case of attracting the opposite sex, but to look more competent within their friend groups and social media. Though there are so many controversies related to women being conscious about appearances, it’s absolutely necessary for a girl to look her best at all times. Especially when you’re going for a family gathering, corporate event, and a meet up with friends or even a job interview where first impressions matter.

However, do you feel you’re makeup artist isn’t doing a great job for the price you pay? Then you probably need to listen to your gut feeling. Makeup dressing is an art which many try but fail to master. A talented make-up artist doesn’t really have to boast around their qualifications, their approach would hint if they are really meant for this profession.

We did a little research of our own and found some of the best ladies salons in Colombo for a new makeover. We would not mention the price ranges as makeover requirement varies from one person to another.

Ramani Fernando Salons

You probably already knew she’s going to be on our list. Ramani Fernando is one of the most sought after makeup and hair artists in Sri Lanka and the Southeast Asia Region. They release a new set of hairstyles and fashion trends every year, making sure they don’t run into a makeup malfunction, unlike many other salons. The main salon is located in Cinnamon Grand Hotel, but she has other branches is Colombo 5, Taj Samudra Hotel, World Trade Center, Kandy, Kiribathgoda, Malabe, Colombo 3 etc. If you’re interested in studying makeup art, you can sign up for her academy as well.

The Cutting Station

Founded by Johann Peiris, who has over 25 years of experience in the makeup art industry, realized what was missing in the current market. With his tagline ‘beauty first’, he is one of the very first local salon artists to establish branches overseas in the UK with the help of his past student Jeewantha Wijeratne. The Cutting Station is an award-winning salon recognized for its quality service, exceptional convenience, trends and atmosphere. If you’re from around Battaramulla area, you can find a Cutting Station branch at Waters Edge as well.

Nadine’s by Kiyaas

https://www.instagram.com/p/Bc3vhgBHR3z/

Located in Cinnamon Lakeside, Colombo, Nadine’s by Kiyaas has some of the most experienced makeup and hair stylists in the city. It’s the ideal place to go for a relaxing spa session as well. And maybe a buffet later at Cinnamon.

Wimal’s Salon

Located in Horton Place, unless you pass by the road you’d never know about Wimal and his amazing makeover talents. Just like so many talented makeup artists, Wimal’s salon never really promotes itself, but if you want a new look – especially for your hair – Wimal is your guy.

The Hair Studio

Located in Colombo 5, The Hair Studio by Anusha Chandanthilake is another worthy salon to try. They’ve got so many great reviews and the team consists of hair as well as face and bridal makeup and dressing artists who’d apply your foundation adequately so it doesn’t make you look like Casper – the friendly ghost.

Salon Kess

https://www.instagram.com/p/B3TzyL3BMNR/

As we already know, Kess is a renowned salon in Sri Lanka which was founded by expert hairstylist, Vasantha De Silva. Those who have tried Kess, says that his hands has the touch of magic (well, not literally but probably the angles that he cut may result in quick hair growth, hence explains the magic) Kess salon’s makeup of course, is quite top notch. If you’re the type who doesn’t really like the spotlight glam, you wouldn’t really like it. But just so you know famous figures such as Otara, Umaria and Kumar Sangakkara have all been to Kess.

Toni & Guy Salon

https://www.instagram.com/p/B7GRXtchL3N/

This is the very first and only international salon brand on our list. Located in Ward Place, Colombo, Toni & Guy is a British Brand that originated in London. They’ve salon branches in over 50 countries and have won multiple awards in the industry. Need not to say, their quality is one of the best and quite reasonable for such a big brand. We highly recommend for you to try if you’ve never been to an international salon brand.

Mosh Aesthetic Lounge

Located in Ward Place, Mosh Exclusive Aesthetic Lounge is the ideal place to relax and rejuvenate while getting a fully pampered makeover. They provide hair and beauty solutions, skincare and clinically proven body slimming therapies at pocket-friendly prices. They’ve introduced new innovative hair products such as Alfaparf Milano, Kerastase and Brazilian blowout etc.

Mane Studio

https://www.instagram.com/p/B3B7HjfBEOG/

A chic, cutting-edge salon located in Colombo 3, Mane Studio excels mostly in hair colouring. We wouldn’t highly recommend for the rest of their services as it doesn’t have much positive reviews. But if you ever want to get a super hair dye or highlights, call in for an appointment and head over there.

Wrapping UP

Ready to leave behind your lousy salon makeup/hair artist? It’s high time to shift! You can try everyone above if you’re not quite sure, but remember to make an appointment without barging in out of nowhere. Also, note that not all talented artists are on social media making noises, you need to go in search of them. Believe us, it’s worth it!
