The World Day for Safety and Health at work is marked on April 28 every year. While the day has passed and observed there are only some organizations that worked towards improving the health and safety condition of their employees in 2021.
The day that was actually observed in 2003 by the International Labor Organization considering the importance of preventing diseases and accidents at the workplace. However, the need for raising awareness around this campaign is more after the coronavirus outbreak in 2020.
The coronavirus outbreak has managed to show the intense vulnerability prevailing in many of us – particularly workers with chronic health concerns. However, to address these issues and helping in its prevention many workplaces have limited their health care policies in order to save dollars.
This is also because many large corporations are finding it hard to navigate the health care cost. After the coronavirus crisis many companies, small or large, have lost major profit-earning opportunities.
But the reality is that without having a sustainable system for health and safety, organizations cannot decrease the chronic conditions in the workplace which will lead to devastating impacts.
The following are some of the ways that can help employers play their part in promoting a healthy work environment with cost-effective and achievable ways:
Have a Look at the Whole Person
The time has long passed when the barrier between the physical, mental, and emotional health of employees was judged on different parameters.
It is time to create a health plan that covers all, especially mental healthcare.
After the coronavirus outbreak employees have been facing serious mental health issues. There were a number of factors for the increase in mental health concerns of the employees. But even if we want to name a few then the sudden office-to-home transition, unavailability of high-speed internet service, right working tools disrupted work-home life balance, and not having the access to the outside are some of the factors.
While organizations have managed to provide employees working remotely with TV and Internet packages, better working tools for efficient working, and similar perks to improve their performance, but there is more to provide.
Well-being perks include mediation classes, massages, and mentoring to help employees dealing with stress and anxiety.
Try enhancing your employee’s mental and emotional well-being so that they might focus on their work but are also able to come up with better plans for the company’s success.
Take One-Size-Fits-One Approach
Weight-loss or lifestyle intervention programs take the one-use-fits-all approach. While the engagement rates might drop off quickly it will stick with the highly motivated ones.
Since different individuals are part of your company they have different habits, preferences, objects, and risks. So providing generic information is not the most suitable thing here. Therefore, for a sustainable system, you need to provide an individualized experience to your employees.
This will create better and stronger human connections and help motivate the employees.
Leverage Technology
Telehealth is convenient replacement than in-person care. The good thing is that your company-provided health insurance can cover this even after the pandemic.
Highly interactive coaching can help create the connection between the company and the employees while inspiring and motivating the workers.
Prevention with Sustainability
If your company wants to upgrade the healthcare system through cost-effective manners then find the more suitable ways to change the lifestyle of the employees.
